48 Hours in Paris

In December 2018, only a week before Christmas, me and my boyfriend ventured to Paris for the first time for 2 days. We took the Eurostar early one morning and came back late the next night.

As it was the first time either of us had been to Paris, we wanted to do everything touristy in the short time we were there.

Our 2 day itinerary:

  • The Notre Dame Cathedral
  • Christmas Markets
  • The Louvre
  • River Cruise
  • The Eiffel Tower
  • Arc de Triomphe
  • Champs-Élysées
  • The ‘Wall of Love’

Out of all the sights, the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe were my favourites. Even as someone who doesn’t like heights, the views from both were breathtaking. I’d highly recommend going to the Eiffel Tower at night, seeing the city all lit up and watching the lights on the Eiffel Tower twinkle every hour was magical. We didn’t make it to the very top though as I got quite scared, as it is very high,  but honestly the views from the 2nd floor were good enough.

The Arc de Triomphe also has great views too. If the weather is clear, you can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance and see all of the Champs-Élysées. (There are a lot of steps to walk up and down though to get to the top which I wasn’t quite prepared for!)

I did also really enjoy the river cruise, it was a nice way to explore more of the city and learn more about it without being out in the cold and to rest your feet for a little while. We booked the Bateaux Parisiens Seine River Sightseeing Cruise and it was a very good value for money. There were lots of comfy seats indoors or you could sit up at the open top. They even had a mobile app you could connect to so you could use your own headphones on your phone to listen to the commentary.

Transport:

In terms of getting around the city, some of the attractions are relatively close and in walking distance. Although in some cases we did take taxis across the city for journeys that would have taken way too long to walk. So we made sure to plan activities that were close together so we didn’t have to taxi too much.

Overall, Paris was a really beautiful city and for all of the main sights, 2 days was the perfect amount of time. In the future I would definitely like to return and maybe venture out to Disneyland Paris and maybe a day trip out to Versailles to have a look at the Palace of Versailles. xxx
